June 11/12 Results

JAYS SOAR OVER TRAIL

Your Kelowna Jays de-feathered the Trail Orioles this weekend amassing 27 runs in the 3 victories (fourth game rained out) and giving up just 2 runs.  The Jays, now on a 6 game win streak, pounded out over 30 hits, and got stellar efforts from their starting pitchers.

 

GAME 1  SATURDAY JUNE 11   KELOWNA 10   TRAIL 0

Starting pitcher Will Russell tossed a 2 hit gem and his team stated off the top of the first inning staking him to a 6 run lead.  Hits by Josh Keithly, Bo Meikljohn and      Riley Jepson combined with 3 walks and a hit batter gave Jays a big lead, which they touched up with 2 runs in the 2nd and 2 more in the 3rd.  On the day Riley Jepson was 3/3 with 4 rbi’s and 2 runs scored, while Michael Gini, Meiklejohn and Keithly scored 2 each.

 

GAME 2 ON SAT. WAS RAINED OUT

 

GAME 3  SUNDAY JUNE 12     KELOWNA 10   TRAIL  1

Starting pitcher Bo Meilkejohn tossed a 5 hitter, got himself into a bit of trouble walking 5 and hitting 1 batter and giving up his only run in the top of the first.

Game heroics however were left to Josh Keithly as he hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 1st inning, driving in Nick Ono (walked), Taren Brad (singled) and Jared Frew (singled). Keithly also had 3 other hits in the game, and Hawaiin born catcher Dallas Chun had 3 doubles on the day. Jays scored 5 runs in the 1st, 1 in 2nd, 2 in 3rd and 4th.

 

GAME 4   SUNDAY JUNE 12     KELOWNA  7   TRAIL   1

The pitching duties for this game were split by the Jays rookie pitchers, Sam Stelnick and Colton Tuka.   Combined they scattered 7 hits, walked just 2 and had 6 K’s and giving up just one run in the 3rd inning.  This was Keithly Day at Butler Field in Trail as he also homered in this game, and had 2 hits, 3 rbi’s and a walk.  Jared Frew (scored 2 runs, 2 hits) and Riley Jepson had 4 hits, a walk, and scored 2 runs.

 

The game shown on the schedule for Wednesday vs. Okanagan “A”s has been cancelled due to a Baseball BC Okanagan tryout camp.

Things will get a lot tougher for the Jays this weekend as once again they are on the road facing the Burnaby Bulldogs for a dh on Saturday (Robert BBY Park) and the Coquitlam Angels for a Sunday dh (Mundy Park).
